If you are using the odometer feature in Mileage Book and the mileage does not match your vehicle's odometer, you can adjust it in Mileage Book. This guide will walk you through the possible causes and show you how to correct it.
Why can there be a difference?
It is normal for there to be a difference between the distance recorded by your vehicle and the distance shown in Mileage Book.
Mileage Book calculates distances based on Google Maps route calculations, while your vehicle's odometer measures the actual distance travelled based on the rotation of the wheels. The vehicle's measurement can be affected by factors such as tyre size, tyre pressure, and other vehicle-specific conditions.
As a result, the mileage shown in Mileage Book is an estimated value. Most GPS trackers are not connected to the vehicle's onboard computer and therefore cannot read the vehicle's odometer. Instead, they calculate the distance based on GPS positions.
There is a future trip in your mileage log
Sometimes your odometer may appear incorrect because a manual trip has accidentally been created with a future date.
Go to your mileage log and set the date filter to show trips up to 10 years into the future. This makes it easy to spot if a manual trip has been created with the wrong year by mistake.
How to correct your odometer
Start by adjusting the kilometers on the trip that is the starting point
- Login to your mileage book account via www.mileagebook.dk
- Navigate to your driving record in the left menu overview
- Click on the pencil for the turn you want to correct
- Adjust the odometer's new value
- Press Recalculate distance or manually enter the two kilometer values. (NOTE. If you have not take google's default route suggestion, a recalculation will change your route to google's suggestion, enter your kilometers manually instead).
- Press Save at the bottom of the page
2. Correct all kilometer values for all trips, before/after the starting point.
- When you have your starting point corrected, you must correct the kilometer counts of all other trips. You do this by clicking on the 3 dots on the far right of the tour that is your starting point.
- In the dialog box, you just have to make sure all fields are set correctly and choose whether the odometer should correct forward trips or backwards for a given period. If you choose backwards, it will adapt your counter in your driving record overview as illustrated below.
